The Greek island of Milos gets described as "the next Santorini" so often that it's easy to forget they have almost nothing in common. Milos is a working island with over 70 beaches, a lunar coastline shaped by volcanoes and mining, fishing villages where the boat garages are painted brighter than the boats, and a little sister island, Kimolos, that most visitors never even hear about. It deserves better than a listicle written from a weekend visit, and that's what this site is here to fix.
I'm Dave Briggs, a British travel writer who has lived in Greece since 2015. Before settling in Athens I spent the best part of 25 years on the road: backpacking through South America, sailing across the Mediterranean, cycling from Alaska to Argentina and later from England to South Africa, and visiting around 100 countries along the way. Together with my partner Vanessa, a born-and-raised Athenian, I co-authored a guidebook to Milos and Kimolos, the research for which meant exploring both islands properly, beach by beach and village by village, in different seasons.
This Milos travel site is that knowledge, kept current and organised the way you actually plan a trip: how to get to Milos by ferry or flight, which beaches suit which wind, whether you really need the boat trip to Kleftiko (you do, but the hike is awesome as well from the adventurous), where to base yourself, how to get around, and when a quad bike beats a hire car. Kimolos gets its own section, because it earns one.
